The unit is several years old and the HD on one of my machines died, had backed up to the WD5000 a month ago. Now the “book” light stays on, am unable to push the button to turn unit off and can’t hear the drive spinning. Hopefully the information on the unit can be retrieved. Thanks…

Is the drive showing under device manager or disk management? If yes, try using a data recovery software to see if you can get the files out of the drive.
