WD Thunderbolt Duo Replacement Drive

Hello everyone,

I have an 8TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo for Mac OS and want to replace one of the drives for it.
I don’t want to have to open it up because it will take about 7-15 hours for the RAID to rebuild for simply checking the drive information. I checked the top of the drives and it says that the drives are WC C4E, but that can’t be possible as that is only a 3 TB drive and this uses 4 TB drives.

What would be the replacement drive (and its specifications), that I would need to purchase in order to replace one of the drives?

Much appreciated.

The replacement drive should be the same model as the one currently hosted on your system. If your WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo is still under warranty then WD Support can arrange for the individual hard drive to be replaced if you contact them.

What if it is out of warranty? I have same issue but drive is four years old.

If you’re out of warranty and did not registered your drive and you did not have the proof of purchase, then you are out of luck

But you can double check your Warranty Status here:

If your drive was Registered on your account, you can try to Update Warranty options by providing Proof of purchase to get Support

Or if your drive was not Encrypted, actually you can just replaced it on your own: :smirk:

Go to Mac Disk Utility, and you’ll find two Disks used for the Duo listed there, Write down it’s Model number and Capacity.
