WD Studio NO STANDBY an loud NOISE

Hello,

I have got a problem with my new WD studio 3tb connected with fw800 to my macbook pro 2011 lion. i made 2 partitions, 1 for backups, one for other things. The studio works BUT :

-there is no standby

-it always makes this tack tack noise even when i dont use it. and yes i changed the settings from spotlight, so it cannot access to the hard drive. i also disabled time machine but no change.

Does anyone know how i can activate the Standby and how i can change this annoying noise??

I know that if your My Book supports Smartware you can change the timer for the sleep mode from settings. Another thing that you can try is connecting the My Book power cable directly to a wall socket.
