Hi, I just got myself a “WD My Passport Essential, 500GB” drive and I have some questions.

If I install “WD SmartWare”, can I disable automatic backup?. I don’t want to have my entire internal HD contents backed up. I just want to backup the files I want, and I don’t want to have multiple versions of my files backed up either.

I want to use the “SmartWare” software, because I want to use “Password Protection” and “Drive Diagnostics”. Is “Check Disk” good enough should I end up not installing SmartWare?.

Anyone?. I should avoid “SmartWare” like the plauge, shouldn’t I?. Will I still be able to use “Computer Management” to format the drive if I ever wanted too in the future?.
