WD Smartware shows the wrong date for the UK

The date in the detailed backup view is wrong (I am in the UK) e.g. on 5th September 2010 it shows 09 May 2010, on Sunday 3rd October  2010 it shows 10 March 2010

I know that the date is reading in the American format, the difficulty is WD have chosen to indicate the month as a word rather than a number. If the date on Sunday read “10/3/2010” that would be one thing, but it reads “10 March 2010”. I haven’t yet used the MyBook on a date later than the 12th of the month, but I will be interested to see what the date reads then.

This problem may be the cause of another difficulty I have encountered. On Sunday, in Detailed View two groups of data were reading a different date “09 May 2010”, which is the date I last backed up on, actually of course the 5th September 2010. Could it be that the system thinks that this is a later backup date and so has not updated it?

These problems make it difficult to see if the MyBook has completed its backup for the day. As I have a laptop I cannot leave it running continuously

Havng exactly same problem …please help, very annoying.

You’re referring to two issues:

  1. The date issue.  The date will continue to show up in the U.S. format.  However, it will correctly transliterate the UK date and time in the U.S. format.  So, there shouldn’t be any worries there - except for how it looks to you.
  2. The backup software runs continuously.  However, the last backup date won’t change until there’s been something new that’s been backed up.  Also, you can turn you laptop off at any time, and when you restart it the software will resume again.
