WD SmartWare functions

Hi there,

I have a WD MyPassport Ultra (1TB). I have been using it for 6 months to backup files from two different laptops. I have three basic questions I cannot answer myself that have to do with the software, aka WD SmartWare. One last thing, I backup selecting files manually, so each time I plug my WD into the laptop it starts backing up exclusively the folders I ticked. Here follow the questions:

  1. I need to delete the backup of just ONE of my laptops, but I cannot find any option in the WD SmartWare software to do such operation nor any way to handle previous backups;

  2. I am about to substitute one of my laptops, will my WD allow me to restore the files in the new-purchased laptop? Or it will recognize it is another one, preventing me from visualizing the backups of my previous laptop?

  3. Is there any way to visualize the content of backups as to delete some specific folders without compromising anything? In short, can I erase JUST specific folders within a particular backup?

Thank you in advance for helping me out! I would be in troubled waters if I do not sort these problems out.

Hello,

1- Try doing this manually by accessing the backup folder. Its called “WDSmartware.swstor” and its located on the root of your Passport drive.

2- It will recognize the computer as a new one and you should be able to retrieve the files to it.

3-Yes, Same as number 1 but just deleting specific files/folders inside the backup.
