WD SmartWare does not recognize 4TB My Book

Hi,

I am using several external WD HDDs and so far I was able to change settings for each of my HDDs in WD SmartWare. Now I have a 4TB My Book which is displayed in the first tab of WD SmartWare, but when I go to the Settings tab it’S not shown there. I’d like to change sleep timer config settings, etc. but cannot do so.

Any idea as to why this disk is not displayed in WD SmartWare?

If this is a newer generation hard drive you will have to use WD Drive Utilities in order to configure the unit instead of WD SmartWare.

Thanks, I will try this out. So for the older releases of HDDs I’d have to use SW and for new ones DU? No single solution for all?

That is correct.

While both hard drive generations still work with WD SmartWare for backups, actual drive management tools are separate for newer units.
