WD Security for Windows - Attach a supported WD drive

WD Security doesn’t recognize my passport (model : WDBEMM0010BBK), it shows me this message : “Attach a supported WD drive”. Anyone can help me?

note: WD Smartware and WD Drive Utilities work fine on my drive.

Hello,

The WD security is not compatible with that version of the passport.

In order for you to secure your drive, you will need to do that with the WD Smartware software.

Check on page 26 and 27 of the User Manual

Hello,

I’ve got a 2TB WD Passport and have the same issue. Model is WDBFBW0020BBK-EEUE. On the product overview page ( http://www.wdc.com/en/products/external/portable/)) hardware encryption support is declared. On the product description page ( http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=640)) it’s written “Use WD Security to set password protection and hardware encryption and protect your files from unauthorized use or access.”

WD Security tells me “Attach a supported WD drive” .

I tried to follow the way with WD Smartware, as described on pp. 26-27 of the Manual. It says “If you opened the WD SmartWare Settings screen, click Set Up Drive to display the WD SmartWare Drive Settings screen (Figure 16).” Unfortunately I don’t see “Set Up Drive” button.

But the software offered me to download update. There are problems with it too. I downloaded, upzipped and started the application, but it stops on the installation step.Nothing happens, no progress. I waited for 10 minutes.

UPD: I managed to update WD SmartWare after reboot, but there’s still no “Set Up Drive” option to set encryption password.

I’ve got Windows 8 x64.

Please assist. Thank you.

Hi richUK, thanks for your reply. I’ve read the topic and checked my device by the link from that topic. The link directs me to a WD warranty check page where I can enter a serial number (not product number) to be checked. So I entered serial number of my drive and the web page said “IN LIMITED WARRANTY” until 2015 and displayed model number which is the same as I wrote in this topic: WDBFBW0020BBK-EEUE. Thus, everything seems to be fine from this side.

As for strange serial number which is not listed on wd.com, maybe it’s a regional product whose serial number is listed on a regional site. I just don’t bother.
