WD Quick View and MyBook Live Problem

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me?  I have just purchased a WD MyBook Live and installed the Smartware and Quick View software on a Vista PC and Mac I have.  Everything seems to be working fine on the mac but I am having problems with the PC.  The Quick View doesn’t seem to be linking with the MyBook Live.  If I click (left or right) on the WD SmartWare icon in the system tray the only options I get are “About WD Quick View”.

I’ve tried the Smartware update but no fix as it won’t install.  Also tried uninstalling Smartware Drive Manager but it won’t allow me to do this.  I get the following error message when I try to do either: “There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.”

Was wondering if it could be a problem with anti virus or firewall??  I’m currently using AVG Antivirus Free 2013 and Windows Firewall.

Also, everything works fine with WD 2go on my phone.

Final questions I am struggling with, how do I get a private share to appear as a folder in Windows?  Bit confused!!.. :frowning:

Thanks in advance for any help received!

Regards,

Stuart.

You need to be sure that the My Book is visible from the Windows PC, the PC and the My Book must be part of the same workgroup. You can use the WD link app to find it on the network. Check the link below.

Mapping a drive letter on a WD Network hard drive using WD Link

Hi Ichigo,

That’s great!  Thanks.  That’s fixed the problem of mapping the private share on my PC.  Is there something similar for mac to save finding the drive every time through WD Quick View?

Any ideas on why WD Quick View may not be working on my PC?  When I click on the WD SmartWare icon in my system tray the only option I get is “About WD Quick View”.

Thanks again!!

Regards,

Stuart.

Unfortunately there is no equivalent app for Mac’s. But you can check the link below for the steps. Also be sure to download the latest Smartware version installed.
