I was wondering if the PassportSE 1TB Portable HDD has a Sata Hardrive in it and is the HDD Itself any thicker then a 500GB 2.5 Drive. The reason I’m asking this is because my friend got one of these drive’s and found that the HDD was fine but no matter what PC he tried using it with the PC would not pick up the Driver all the time and it needed to be unplugged and plugged back in,he fixed the problem by taking the HDD and just getting another case and it worked fine,I have heard of this problem before with the WD PassportSE drive’s I know they have the Driver folder on the drive and it does not alway’s get picked up.I have a 1TB PassportSE and my act’s up at time’s as well,I don’t care if I’m going to void the Warranty if I open the case I’m just sick of the driver not always being picked up so I olny want to know if the HDD is any thicker then a 500GB HDD and if it is a SATA Harddrive in the case.
The problem with USB powered drives is that PCs frequently have barely adequet power supplies and the drive needs a stable power source. They do make a Power Booster cable it’s Y shaped. See if that helps. If it’s one of the drives with Smartware it won’t work in another case and any data on it will be hardware encrypted.
