WD Passport won't unlock after Mac OS update!

Hi!
Thank you for your reply:)
But I’m not quite sure I understand your suggestion?
Can you please explain a litte bit more detailed?

I only installed the latest WD Security on my system and none of the other apps. Sorry, I do not.

  1. Install WD Security using the link I gave you.
  2. After you install WD Security, open the app.
  3. When prompted, connect your passport to your laptop.
  4. Upon connecting, you should be met with a window that tells you to select your device.
  5. When selected, click next and you’ll be asked to enter your password to passport.
  6. That should take to the security settings area where you can remove your password from your passport.

hi there. i have the same problem. i installed the security and update, it asks me to unlock the device so it can update but it won’t let me type the passcode, it stills says it needs to be updated. i need the files, they are from work, i don’t know what to do. please i would love to get help!!

For now till WD update the driver: Get ONYX software. Run its basic cleanup and your Passport will probably mount.

when I install wd security and open the app and when I open the app it will just direct me to a choice on "uninstall app?’

I tried doing what DaveJake suggests a couple of times and still no luck. Currently have Catalina 10.15.1 and still can’t get my Passport to backup. Ended up getting a Seagate external drive and after fumbling around for a while got it to backup. The Seagate can work with either Windows or MAC, you have to format the thing for MAC. There are instructions on Seagate’s web site walking you though it. Took 3 hours to back up my stuff from my MacBook Pro but then to back up a lot of GB that’s to be expected I guess.

Have been transferring window laptop info to 8gb wd external drive, been working fine, now it wont open on mac and will no longer copy from windows says dirty disk

Update: using DaveyJake’s patch I finally was able to backup my Passport. Took forever but I’m guessing it took so long because of the new Catalina Operating System. Thanx DaveyJake, I owe ya!

So, after downloading Catalina, it has taken me 44 days to figure out how to get a backup on a Passport. Way to go WD…

DaveyJake, I just bought a 4TB WD My Passport Ultra 4TB today and was absolutely steaming (until I read this post). My brand new iMac 27 Core i9 (dah dah dah) wouldn’t recognise the HDD.

I somehow found this thread and clicked your link and VOILA!! All working - so thank you so much mate for posting that advice. I can now start transferring data from my old 3TB Mac Fusion with confidence.

Again thank you.

PS I also bought the SanDisk 1TB USB-C SSD drive and wow… Blazing fast and easy to use. About the size of a business card! Be well one and all.

I’ve tried to download, install, and run WD Security, but it didn’t work with me. My Passport drive was never showing up. Fortunately, I found this link posted by WD staff on another topic, so I tried to install a new version of Paragon NTFS. I just follow the step and restart my Macbook, and finally, it works!!! The HDD shows back up as a drive like it was in Mojave.

Gotta say, I bought the 4TB WD My Passport Ultra (HDD)… it basically refused to work with my 2014 iMac… It works selectively with the brand spanker 2019 iMac 8 core I just purchased.

Starting to lose patience as have downloaded all the Paragon and WD stuff. It just seems to be very finicky.

Perhaps I should’ve bought the MAC version of the HDD but I needed 4TB.

Is this only for a wireless external HD? My WD Passprt Ultra is not reading since my Mac updated to Mojave and I have so much on it!

Mine is Passport ultra with usb wire and my problem occurred with OS Catalina. Btw, have you tried install Paragon NTFS?

I previewed the Paragon NTFS, but don’t see the value unless I am missing something since I don’t have much MS software o interact with. Any support to why I should?

When I tried this, I got to the window asking for security updates, (1) remove password, (2) change password), etc
I tried each option several times, It wont allow me to move any further. It just keeps opening up the options again over and over again. Does anyone know what the issue or what should happen next?
If you could give step by step instructions, I would appriecate this very much - Thank you in advance!

My passport has the blinking lights on it and I seem to have the WD Security on it (not positive if it is for Catalina, as I have a MAC). I checked the WE website and for security it only shows the latest being lionshead - Catalina is not listed there, I couldnt find it anyway, the link only leads to the website security page nothing for Catalina itself. It would be nice if WD themselves could respond and inform their clients of whats going on and when we can expect movment from them.

hhere you can find the update ! https://macdownload.informer.com/wd-security/download/

This works for me.

Unplug your device from the computer.
Install the WD security app.
