WD Passport not working on Windows after Ubuntu crashed

HI, I was copying some data to my WD Passport Essential 500gb from my ubuntu laptop - when the whole thing crashed.

I rebooted, and carried on fine.

However, the files I’ve copied (which i see perfectly in ubuntu) are now not accessible in win7

when I connect it up - I get “F:\ is not accessible. The media is write protected.”

I’ve tried unmounting / removing safely in ubuntu - and the disk utlitity shows the ntfs volume is ok.

Any ideas???

thanks in advance internet geniuses

I would guess that something is corrupt since the Ubuntu crashed while copyiing. Linux is also not a supported OS for these external drives. In Windows does the drive show in Disk Management and what does it say? Connected to Windows 7 go into Device manager and delete the drivers for the external remove it and reboot system. Then reconnect the drive.
