WD Passport 1TB portable locks PC when copying files

My WB Passport 1TB drive frequently  locks my pc when copying files to it.  Win 7 64bit home premium.

WD BBEP0010BBK-01.  Hard to tell if these are 'B’s or eights (88) in the model number.  Any ideas?

Only way to exit is to push the power button - hard kill the PC.

Run a diagnostic test on the drive

copy all data ASAP and defrag

the unit seems to have some corruption going on
