hi, i have WD Passport Essential model # WDBAAA2500ABF, not even 2-3 months old. when i would backup a dvd movie it took about 5-8 mins, now all of a sudden it takes 15 - 30 hours! same goes for pictures and music, very slow.
the only thing i can think of is that i might have unplugged the HD without clicking the " safe to remove " option a couple of times.
anything i can do to get my WD HD back to working conditions, or is it useless??
i will try anything to save it, there’s nothing on the HD that is of importance.

Disconnecting the drive without using the Safely remove option is one of the most lethal things you can do to a hard drive, you can corrupt the drive, damage the file system.
This was design for a reason. The only thing I could suggest you is to reformat the drive to delete any corrupt file on it.
‘Very slow’ is an understatement. Mine (brand new, bought 4 of them!) has been backing up for 18 hours and has so managed 30 out of 45 gig. Using the USB 3.0 version which is supposed to be compatible with the USB 2.0s on my laptop.
I also had problems installing/uninstalling/reinstalling the WD Smartware. Received no response to my concerns from WD.
try their websites link http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?lang=en and see which hardrive u need to get reinstalled i tried one for me but the problem is tht everytime i do it it says not strated frm drive i mean reinstalling the smartware
