WD My Passport stopping my Windows 7 PC from responding

Hi, after several months of near-normal performance. my Passport has suddenly drained my Win7 PC / stopped it from responding normally. Response times are incredibly slow, and I mean minutes vs nanoseconds. Outlook cannot access my archived .pst files and as for looking for the drive in Windows Explorer – well, I have to go for a walk while the system thinks about it. Yet when I logically eject the device or pull the USB, my PC gets its wings back.

I know there were issues with the WD device manager software, after contacting WD support they advised me how to fix a problem with the memory allocation/use, but that does not seem to have recurred.

Trouble is that the device is used as my archive/backup…and I am concerned that all is lost.

Any suggestions please?

This could happen if the partition is corrupted

The OS is having a hard time reading it so it will just hang and freeze the computer

Try connecting to a different computer and see if you have the same issue
