WD My Passport BU cannot restore file from a previous (older BU)

MY Passport for Mac Ver. 2.05.18. BU is successful. When trying to restore file from a previous BU it did not do so. When requesting the restore it restored the file from the newest BU. WHY?

What am I doing wrong?

It would be best to clarify the name of the application you used to copy your files and the process you followed. Different generations of WD Passport devices use different software tools and they are also compatible with external applications such as Apple Time Machine.

Thanks for the response. WD Tech support advised the problem lies within Apple & I should contact Apple & ask for their assistance.
