Installed a new WD My Passport Ultra 500gb portable drive last night on my laptop (Windows 7). Seemed to be fine. This morning it is not recognized. Re-installed driver from WD website and it still is not recognized. Working fine on my desktop (Windows 7).

If it is working on your desktop and not on a laptop it is possible the laptop is not providing enough power to make the drive spin properly. I recommend that you contact WD support directly to verify if they can send you a power booster cable (Y cable)
