WD My Passport 1TB possible drive controller problem

WDBACX0010BBK

When I want to connect the drive, I have to plug it in and unplug it at least once before the OS recognizes it or the light on the passport comes on. Is my drive dying? SMART information read from Crystal Disk Info shows no irregularities or warnings. Another possibility is that the internal drive controller is going bad And if it is, should I backup the data and replace it promptly? I have heard that WD used a proprietary drive controller board in this specific model for form factor reasons, and thusly, I cannot take it apart and just stick it inside a regular old SATA enclosure.

Thanks

You might have a data corruption problem, or the passport is not receiving enough energy to work correctly. Use the DLG to run a test.
