How do I check the firmware version of the newly purchased WD My Book drive before running the Universal Firmware Updater. Will the Universal Firmware Updater check to see if the firmware is already up to date or not and only apply the update if the firmware is older or will it always update the firmware version even if the firmware is the same version?

From what i have experienced, once you run the firmware updater, you get a message that stated if you are on a newer or if the same version of firmware is available before you actually update. This means you don’t have to do a unnecessary update on your device.
