WD My Book 3TB was formatted reset to default settings?

I recently acquired a WD My Book 3TB external drive that was formatted. I am not attempting to recover the data or any lost backups, however, what I am attempting to do is to have it set as close to “factory default” as possible. I know that there is some software that is typically already installed on the drive so when I connect it it should run automatically. Since the drive is now “clean” the default software is no where to be found…

I already have the WD Smartware software installed on my PC but how do I get it installed to the My Book? Is it as simple as changing the install directory to be the my book? Or is there something that I’m missing?

There’s nothing needed to be “installed” on the drive. The files that are there on a new drive are just placed there for convenience so the owner doesn’t have to go online to download them.

If you want the files, you can get them from support.wd.com, but if you’re already up and running, there’s no need.
