WD MY book 1140 not working

Hi,

So my WD MY book 1140 usb device has been working on my mac, properly, for ages. But now, even though it is a mac/windows device, I can’t use it on my brand new windows 10 machine. It shows up in “Device Manager” (which is how I know what its called) but it doesn’t show up in “Disk Manager” and I obviously don’t want to lose all the photos on it.

Is this a case of “well, you’re the ■■■■■ who didn’t partition it into mac/windows before using it because you thought it came made that way” and I need to use LAN/cloud to transfer all my photos?

If anybody knows the answer, without me needing to pay for a tool, that would be great. Thank you for your help

Hi,

You could refer to the following link: Cannot Find My WD Drive on Windows or macOS

Windows doesn’t recognise Mac file systems.

Try HFSExplorer (freeware):

… or MacDrive (paid):

The possible causes for such an issue can be an incompatible file system, missing drive letter, disk driver issues, damaged partition issues on the hard drive. In a worst-case, the drive itself is failing.

You can try below fixes to resolve the issue:

  1. Initialize the drive or drive partition
  2. Change/Assign drive letter
  3. Update Disk drivers
  4. Enable drive in BIOS
