WD is selling expensive unsupported drives

I bought a 18TB WD Elements drive for hundreds of dollars.

Today I’ve installed WD Utilities to make the drive usable (to make the drive stop waking me up with that bright white LED which is constantly blinking even when PC is off).

WD Utilities asked me to “attach a supported WD drive” instead of the unsupported WD Elements.
It looks like WD is selling unsupported drives for hundreds of dollars.
Is this legal? Nowhere on the packaging did it say that the drive was unsupported.
Had I known that WD does not support its drive I would not have spent money on this drive.
