WD Files disappearing I am NOT on Mavericks

Hi

Noticed today that a lot of files have simply vanished. I see there are problems with Maverics, but I am using OS 10.7.

I notice that the drive is noisy, continually ‘crunching’ for want of a better expression.

The folder structures are there but files within some have just gone. They all seem to be the most recently added. For example newly added fonts show folder but the file is replaced with a string of random numbers. Older fonts are still there. Same with work files and images.

I have an external drive to store stuff on as I only have a Macbook Air with limited storage. Will a restore program restore files?

If the problem continues, it is possible that some of your files are corrupted, let me know if it doesn’t work.
