I have been using successfuly WD External drives for several years to save Acronis Home 2012 backups on for my 2 PC’s.
I run Windows 7 (64 bit) on both PC’s. Historically my WD drives have been My Book versions. One of them started to indicate failure signs recently so I purchased a new WD Elements 2TB drive. All has bee well for a couple of months with 4 full backs ups (2 for each PC) successfully created and validated. This month however I encountered a problem with the following error message appearing:
Failed to read from sector '387,938,129 of hard disk 7. Failed to read the snapshotmanager drive, (0x1000D7). unknown status (0x9). The drive cannot find the sector requested (0xFFF0)
Hard disk 7 is the new WD Elements external drive. I get exactly the same message on both PC’s when I try to do a full back up and have re-installed Acronism but same message.
I have successfully backed up both PC’s with no problems on my other, older, WD My Book drive so the problem would seem to definately relate to the new WD Elements disk.
So far I have run the following:
chkdsk /r
WD Date Lifeguard Quick test (pass)
WD Data Lifeguard Extended test - took circa 24 hours but successfully completed and Pass
Currently running Windows check erros tool on the disk!
I am rapidly running out of ideas as to how to solve this apparent issue with the drive.
Full reformat NTFS perhaps?
Any advice gratefully received…I have spent last three days trying to sort unsuccessfully…
Hi,
Make sure that your data is save on a different drive and try reformatting the drive and testing that again.
