I just got a new WD element, and when I plug it in, it doesn’t work with a mac. After visiting the help site, it says I have to format it. I followed the instructions to “erase” the drive, but it says it is unable to do that. Now, when I plug it in, it doesn’t even recognize it. What the heck? I am so irritated. I thought this would automatically work with a mac right out of the box. Did I just kill this brand new drive?
Oh brilliant! I got it working. I tried erasing it again, and this time it worked. I guess it just needed a kick in the pants.
