Hi… I was wondering if someone could give me some advice about the following please?
I need to buy a new HD for the Music & Video production projects which involves using/loading large sound libraries in Logic Pro X and was advised on something like the following set up.
A USB 3 or Thunderbolt drive at 7200 rpm on which to store and read the sound libraries. SSD if possible (I know these are expensive though).
Then another drive preferably USB 3 at 7200 rpm on which to work on and archive projects.
I was wondering if the “WD 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo External Desktop Hard Drive” can be used as two separate drives at the same time? One to read the sound libraries from and the other to save my projects on?.. I’m not sure if that’s possible and would it require having 2 Thunderbolt Ports on my iMac?
The other but more expensive set up would be to have a 250GB SSD USB 3 Drive for the sound libraries only and then the WD Duo for archiving & duplication on both the drives? However I’m not sure if an external SSD using USB 3 would end up slower than using the WD Thunderbolt drive for reading the sound libraries due to the USB 3 connection?
I don’t know too much about the technical side of all of this or how it works so any help would be great?
Thanks
