WD Blue m.2 SATA not working with Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura

I have a WD Blue NAND SATA SSD m.2 2280. (WDS100T2B0B)

Current MOBO: Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura with m.2 NVMe slot PCIe x4

Drive has both b+m key slots and fits and seats just fine. What am I doing wrong? Does this drive fit but isn’t compatible? I thought it was compatible with all m.2 slots.

Late to likely help the original poster, but for future readers, the board can physically fit something it is not compatible with. For instance, m.2 SATA not being compatible with the 970 Pro even though it physically fits in the m.2 slot.
