I know theres a lot of topics on this, and if some one could point me to related post that be great or provide an answer on here.
I have 2 5tb WD USB3 External Hard Drives, which are attached to my iMac since March, Not had an issue until Monday.
As I am in the process of “Decommisioning” my PC, I removed the 2 2tb WD Element drives from the PC and connected them to the same USB hub for the Mac.
Straight away the 2 5tb drives have no vanished from the system, when I attempt to load them on my Laptop (Windows 7) there dont load, I’ve also tried changing the cables, disconnecting them from the hub and attaching directly to Mac with no joy.
I really hope that I can recover these with out warranty (Purchased in Feb/Mar 2016) as there are extremely important files one of these drive which I hadn’t managed to back up yet.
How did you connect the hard drives? Did you safely eject them before disconnecting? Are the hard drives displayed within your Mac’s built-in Disk Utility?
The hard drives were connected via USB to an USB hubs, On a physical basis they were never ejected. They just disappeared when I booted the Mac.
These drives are not visible in Disk Utility, I have also attached them to another mac and PC which they do not appear.
I suspect the usb port on the caddy has gone.
I’ve raised a support ticket and they have responded with they believe I have done everything possible and need to put a warranty claim in. I was also looking either there was a way to recover the drives without voiding the warranty.
