WD 4TB external & IMAC

I’m new to this forum and have read a couple articles regarding this but just to be clear, the situation is:

IMAC (new June 1, 2016), El Capitan OS-X 10.11.5 (needs external backup drive)

Purchased WD ‘My Book’ MD1235 Media, external 4TB drive…

Plugs in but Time Machine does not recognize it…

Disk utility sees and offers partitioning but not Journaling…

OS-X HFS file system requires Journaling…

Under the file menu, “Enable Journaling” is not selectable…

Does this mean I cannot use WD DRIVE?

thx

Hello all.
I just installed the WD Drive Utility app and ran all the prechecks, which it passed. Did not do the long sector check…
Next erased the drive using the Utility, which identified the correct HSF format.

Once erased, the Time Machine picked up the drive and all is well…

Hello, glad to read that you where able to resolve your issue.

Hi lluna

I have the utility and my Drive is intact and has capacity but El Capitan won’t let me write to the drive. I don’t have another external drive to back up onto so I can’t reformat my drive. Will the Seagate Time Machine driver work on a WD Mybook Duo please? I can’t find a similar WD driver. Kind of wishing I bought Seagate now…
