WD 0730 not recognize sorta

My Daughter pulled the usb cord out during a data transfer now it shows up as local Disk (F:) and Removable Disk (E:) but I can’t access any of the files.  It also shows up as eject my passport 0730 but it won’t actually eject it and if I just unplug the usb it tells me it needs to be reformated.

Can I get any ideas on whats going on here? Thanks

Hi there.-

In cases like this … windows will not let you use the drive unless you reformat it and sometimes when you reformat the drive windows tells you the drive is write protected.

You can try a software to test and repair the drive but that will not guarantee your drive will be fully repaired you may get the write protected message at any time…

My recomendation to make it simple … call WD , verify if the drive is still under warranty and replace it…

Actually, when your daughter pulled the cable out while you were transferring data, it most likely blew the partition out.  That’s why Windows won’t recognize it.  I don’t know if you will be able to recover the data or not.  It will depend on how bad the file structure got corrupted.  you could try using a partition recovery software like Testdisk and see if that will help you.  Otherwise, you can go into Disk Management and repartiton and format the drive all over again, and then it should be fine.

If the data isn’t important just reformat the drive. TestDisk is one recovery tool but It’s a bit complex. Somebody that had a problem with TestDisk posted this http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ and had good luck with it.
