Warranty & RMA Services data privacy?

My Portable HD just died, and I believe it to be under warranty. Before returning it to WD for replacement, I want to be sure my personal documents and information will remain private, or destroyed. 

I can’t find anywhere official on the website which specifies how my data including passwords is protected when the dead drive is RMA’d back to WD.

What’s the official policy on data privacy for returned drives, and where is it posted?
