Virus when restoring a backup?

I attempted to restore a back up to my PC. When I did that it appears my computer no longer recognizes pdf or jpg extensions. These files will not open. Recent files open. Any file created before Oct 2020 will not open. Also, my computer does not recognize the external Passport SSD hard drive when I plug it in. I know the port is good.
