Using My Passport Ultra on Windows AND Mac - Encryption on both?

I was to buy a my passport ultra to use to store my teaching cases and work documents so i like the idea of the 256 AES hardware encryption.
I plan to have the files accessible to Osirix (and Word) on the Mac as well as Windows so will keep it formatted as NTFS.

My main question is will the encryption work on both the Mac and windows out of the box?

If not how do I set this up please?
