USB Mode Battery Doubt

Hello there, I’ve a doubt about My Passport Wireless.

Does I need battery to use it on USB Mode? If I want to have it connected to the computer via usb, does I need battery? Will it consume battery on that mode? Or the battery is only needed for the wireless mode?

The battery is disabled in USB mode. It is only used in WiFi mode.
