USB 3.0 Flash Drive - Can't play .MOV files

Hi,

I’ve got a 256Gb USB Flash Drive on which I’ve stored all sorts (Word docs, PDFs, holiday and wedding photos, account XLS files, videos etc) as a secure backup. I can read them in the vault or extract from the vault to edit as required. Photos I can view OK in the Sandisk gallery view.

The issue is movies which are .MOV format from a Nikon and a I think, a Canon camera but these won’t play, with no error messages or anything, I’ve tried various portable viewers, but they either don’t work or like VLC, it downloaded to the USB but seemed to disappear and I can’t find it.

Help please!

Copy the .MOV files directly out of the vault to the USB drive’s main folder, then play them with VLC installed on your computer.

Copy MOV files to your computer first, then play them with VLC directly on the PC instead of running it from the USB.

You can copy the MOV file to your computer’s local hard drive, open it with a media player, and then install the necessary video codecs.

Your secure vault won’t let any executable (.exe) file run properly, as it is designed to keep the vault secure. That’s why you are unable to see your downloaded VLC as it is an .exe file. The folks above are right: you need to move your MOV files from your vault to your laptop/PC’s local storage, then try playing them with a media player installed on your machine.
