Updated Smartware software is on C: drive but not on My Passport Essential

I have just updated my smartware to the latest version (1.5.0.18 according to the updater, but the program shows 1.5.0.17) and the updated software is found in the Western Digital folder on my C: drive.  On my Passport Essential, the software is still version 1.4.1.1. 

I am planning to move to a new computer, and was going to use the backup and retrieve system to move my files.  I will have to start with the programs on the removable disk.  Why is the software on the removable disk not updated?  Should I manually update the files on the disk?  If so, which files should I copy from my C; drive?

Will the WD software also copy the registry items for the software onto the new computer?.  In other words, will the programs from my old computer be immediately useable on the new machine or will I have to go back to the original installation disks?

When the firmware and Smartware is updated on a drive, you have to make sure you moved the updater files to the drive if not, you will have the drive updated and the software updated only on that computer you used to update everything. A recommendations to go to either to the computer you used to update the firmware and the software to copy the updater files to the drive or just go to wdc.com and download those files directly to the drive.-
