A friend of mine borrowed studio time from someone to shoot an interview. They shot the footage for him with their cameras and handed him three SanDisk Ultra 8GB memory cards. He then passed them off to me to extract and edit for his YouTube Channel.
Problem is, no matter what I try I can’t extract the files. My Sony card readers pull up the data, and I can see the MP4 video, but when I drag and drop it onto my PC or Mac, neither Windows nor Quicktime will play it. As if the footage needs to be extracted with other information on the card.
I tried downloading Sansa Media Encoder and that software wouldn’t read it. FCP doesn’t read it, either, so I’m at a loss for what to do next. My memory cards are Sony memory cards. I can see in the files “Sony”, so I’m guessing the footage was shot with a Sony camera. Is it possible to download Sony software and extract the files that way? I’d rather do this on my Mac because that is what I use for editing, but I also don’t want to start downloading new software onto my computer until I have a fair idea whether or not it will work. Also, I don’t know which Sony software I should be searching for to download.
I hope someone can help me with this.
Many thanks in advance!!
