Unable to access files once retrieved back to PC

My hard drive stopped working and i have had to get a new one. I have retrieved my files from my MyBook Essentials and loaded on to new drive. Now i have reinstalled my applications, I am unable to open my files.

I don’t recall is i upgraded from windows 8 to 10 before or after my last back up. I don’t know if this would make a difference.

Can anyone assist with this?

If you did some updates on your computer, check the ownership of the files.
