Time Machine

I cannot access any backup documents on my Time Machine beyond April 13 2016.

Hey there, Derek.

Sorry to hear about the issues you’re currently experiencing with your backups.
Would you please be so kind as to let me know what’s the device you’ve made the Time Machine backups on? It would also be helpful if you’d let me know what’s the device you’re using to try and access those backups (e.g. a phone with the My Cloud app)? Have you had any issues with the device in question before that happened? Do you get any specific error message/s when you try to access older backups?

I’ll be sure to check your response once you’ve posted it.

Hello,
I have used two devices: a WD and a Toshiba 1TB Canvio Connect. I have the same problem with each of them. Currently I have the WD connected.
I am using an iMac, with Yosemite.
I have had no issues in the past.
No error messages but can’t access anything beyond April 13 2016.

Thanks

Derek

I see. Have you upgraded or reinstalled your OS recently (before this issue started), by any chance? I’m asking, because I’ve stumbled upon similar problems after an update, or a fresh install of Mac OS X.

Since this seems to be a Time Machine related issue, perhaps it would be best to contact Apple’s customer support for more info, to see if the guys there have a solution to this problem.

Please keep me posted.

Hello,

Thanks for your response and suggestions . I have not re-installed my OS, so I guess the problem is not there and I may have to go to Apple, I was trying to avoid the cost as my warranty is out of time.

Cheers

Derek

Hmm, that makes it even more unusual then. Please let me know what you find out when you get in touch with Apple’s customer support. It might prove useful to another user with similar issues, as well.

I think this is probably not an issue with any of the drives, as the exact same thing happens with both HDDs. However if you are concerned that there might be something wrong with them (even if it would be a bit too coincidental for something to happen to both of them at the same time), I’d suggest that you check them out: How to test a drive for defects or problems on a Mac

Good luck!
