Time Machine Back Up

Time machine message is that there is insufficient drive for new back up.
Shouldn’t WD Drive automatically delete older back ups for latest backup?

If WD do that then there might be a lawsuit right? It is up to the user to delete their old data and their setting on Time Machine backup.

But I thought that the older backups were auto deleted to make room for the new ones.
It is a 2TB WD Ext HD currently 1.89 TB used and 110 GB free. To make it back up 380 GB free is required.
So I plan to go to Backups.backupdb folder and delete my old MacBook Pro backups. Trying get info about the size of each back up. Takes forever to get size quantity. One date back up is 750 GB and I have four dates, for a total of 3 TB, which in theory exceeds the capacity of the Ext HD. I can only presume they’re being compressed during back up.
