This software has serious problems

WDSMARTWARE.EXE will churn away for hours at a time and consume 90%+ CPU.  It is so bad that I have to exit from wdsmartware to get anything done.  It hogs the system and, even though it is supposed to run in the background, it slows down everything. I’ve done everything WD support eventually suggested (defrag, free up disk space) with little positive result.

I’ve had it. This is the worst piece of hardware/software I’ve ever worked with.

I have to totally agree with you. People should  start writing letters to the coprate office of WD. I personally called. But this blog won’t allow any phone numbers or address to be published on it.
