Third failed attempt to archive 3TB Time Capsule to 6TB My Book via USB

Hello, community.

I have a Time Capsule with 3TB HD for a long while now and now it is 2.87TB full and I want to free up some space.

To do this I am adding 6TB WD My Book via USB to it. Twice I have formatted it to Mac Journaled and the third time I formatted it and also unclicked “Ignore permissions…”. Then I am starting the archiving process through the AirPort utility and it all works for a long number of hours without any issues, but consistently fails (just abruptly aborts and I can not find ins and outs of it anywhere) leaving behind an “AirPort Time Capsule Archive_temp” folder 884.46GB in size (only easured the size of it precisely the last time, but it was in the same region the previous two attempts)

Why would this be happening?

No Mac is attempting to use Time Machine in this period as I have disabled this functionality.

The only thing that Time Capsule is used for as a router and only one machine is used to check on the status of the archiving process using AirPort utility.

I would prefer to do it via Archiving as doing this via Mac would mean that I will have to tied down my laptop into this for about 2.5 days If this is the only option I suppose I could do it, but …

Anything else I might be doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance,
Oleg

Hello there,

I have not tried this but let’s see if another user can share some information or tips on this matter. Do you get an error message when the backup fails?

Thank you ArMak. I can not find any error messages as this happens directly between Time Capsule and My Book and is typically happening on hour 10 or so … in fact the size of partition is really close to the practical throughput of USB2 in 10 hour period … is it possible that MyBook has a time limit or reset/reboot switch after certain period?

Update. Someone on Apple communities mentioned that 6TB might be too big for the TIme Capsule to haandle and I have partitioned this 6TB space into two 3TB drives each and started the archiving onto one of them and it still failed. Any other ideas?
