Suspicious WD Files

To make a very long story short, I contracted malware which added a few unsavory .dll’s to my PC. After trying approximately 8-10 ‘cleaners,’ the only software which worked was NPE (Norton Power Eraser).

However, I’ve noticed that in various places in Explorer [C:\Users<My Name>\AppData\Local; Program Files; Program Files (x86); and Program Data], there are various Folders named: Western _ Digital and Western _ Digital _ Technolog ( WITH the underscore), with some strange Files contained in them.

I know that all Folders designated: Western Digital (WITHOUT the underscore) are fine. I’ve also done a day’s worth of research on this and can’t find anything definitive.

Can anybody who works for WD tell me if those WD Folders WITH the underscore are legitimate WD Folders please?

Thanks in advance for your time and trouble - I appreciate it.

Yes, they are legitimate.

They are normally for the previews versions of the software.

I appreciate you letting me know. Since they’re valid Folders/Files, I won’t delete them. I’ve written WD Customer Service 3x with basically the same question and they keep telling me to call  Level II Tech. Supp.

I have one other question which I wrote to Customer Service, but forgot to include above:

In MSCONFIG, under Services, I stopped WD Backup, WD Drive Manager and WD Rules months ago, and under Startup, I stopped WDDMStatus.exe and WDDriveAutoUnlock.exe months ago.

However, when I go into Services.msc, I almost always see WD Drive Manager, WD Backup and WD Rules as Manual and Started. Since I stopped them in MSCONFIG, why and how does it start up by itself and how do I keep it from starting until I want it started (by starting it manually in Services.msc)?

Thanks for the above and thanks in advance once again, if you might know the answer to my last question.
