I’ve got a rather large collection of movie files on “two” 3TB external WD Hard Drives…, One drive stores my VIDEO_TS files while the other stores the same movies files in another format (i.e…, like .avi, .mp4 and .mkv files).
For several reasons…, I need another hard drive, one that could accommodate any future growth of my collection as well as protect my files from bit rot, memory leaks and by the same token perform a check sum when data bits are transferred.
I been researching the various RAID configurations and I am not exactly convinced that any of these configurations are key in what I consider to be my best choice.
Besides ways to manage and protect my files, my major concern is “Redundancy” since none of my data as of yet is backed up.That being said…, what are my choices?
The only RAID configuration that seemed promising offered block striping with a dedicated parity drive, but NO “Mirroring” which I am not sure I prefer over just a plain “Back-Up” disk… Maybe both.
In a nutshell…, I need to store and protect the integrity of my data and have it duplicated on a separate physical disk drive in case of a disaster.
Can anyone recommend an external hard drive that will fit my needs?
Thank you,
Rick
