Stolen 2G passport

I recently went on vacation and decided to bring my 2Gig Passport with me…and made the terrible decision to put it in the checked luggage.  Ya, ya, it was a really dumb decision.

When I arrived at my destination, the hard-drive was gone.  I use this drive to back-up my internal HD, so it has ALL of my financial info on it including bank statements, account numbers, IRA statements and account numbers…

So I have  few questions:

1> the HD has a password, but how easy would it be for a hacker to access the data?

2> is there a way for me to tell if someone has tried to access the drive?

3> I can’t find the SN for my drive that was stolen. Does the WD SmartWare record the model#, part # and/or the SN of the drive?

4> can someone reformat the drive and reuse the drive without having the password?

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the Community, sorry to hear your Passport got stolen.

1- If you were using password protection it is practically impossible to unlock it.

2- There is no way to know if the someone is trying to access your passport.

3- Did you got register your Passport on the WD support page?

4- The Passport can be unlocked by installing Smartware and entering the incorrect password 5 times, after this a pop-up will show up giving the option to format it.

If you do find the serial number I recommend you to contact support to void the warranty.
