When I check the drive status using the Utilities it says SMART device failed…any clue what this is?
Hello, Jkepp,
Well, if the smart status of the device states as fails using WD Drive Utilities that means the drive has a numerous number of bad sectors on it, and cannot be repaired. I would recommend you to replace the drive if it is under warranty or you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this.
