Something else for Mac users to try with frozen Clip - reset PMU

I  had an occasion when a USB drive was not recognized by my Mac.   After playing with the device for a while, I tried another USB drive and found that it wasn’t recongnized either.   I did some research and found that a problem with the Power Management Unit in my Powerbook could sometimes cause a USB port to not be recognized.   I found a FAQ for resetting the PMU at  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449#faq6

For my Powerbook the PMU reset instructions were:

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
I did this procedure and my USB port came back to life.   I don’t know if this is the problem that some Mac users might be having with their Clip, but it might be worth a try.
