Some Knocking Noise which can feel only by touching the drive physically when Reading files from my passport ultra Metal Edition 2TB

I bought a WD 2tb My passport Ultra Metal Edition 6 Moths ago. After purchasing I used it till this past month, I didn’t notice nothing irregular. Now also it works fine. First of all I will say I don’'t have any idea about the hard drives. My doubt is, some time the drive become ideal (No Sound) if there is neither reading nor writing (Its ok i know). When I read or play any file (movies, songs) the drive starts make sound (rotating sound) also often it make some knocking sound with little jerking (_These sounds cant hear it can feel only by touching on it. There is no sound at all at outside) in almost same interval. (I don’'t know, it may be the sound of stylus moving. Also I don’t know all the drives making the same sound on reading time). I am very doubtful about it, whether it is an issue or it is the real.

I used different diagnostics software’s provided by western digital and also some other software’s of different companies and checked in depth which shows “no issues - Healthy” .It makes me more confusion whether the drive is physically healthy or not.

My humble request is to help me by providing any suggestions to confirm my drive physical status.

Waiting for a favourable reply.

Hello there,

When you use the drive, do you see the drive taking longer than usual to access the files or any freezing when playing movies or music? If the diagnostic software does not indicate any issue in my opinion there should not be any issues with he drive.

No Armak, Never I felt like that.

Thanks for your suggestion.

If the drive is working fine then it’s probably just the “sound” of the heads seeking. If it’s a repetitive click like a clock that may be more indicative of a problem. But with the diagnostic saying it’s ok and your real world experience saying the same then it probably is just the heads seeking, which would increase as the drive becomes fragmented and has to seek more while playing files.
