This the first external hard drive I have ever purchased. Can someone tell if and how I can install a software program on my external drive so that it is portable and I can use it on any computer (such as work, etc) that I am using at the time.

Well what OS are you talking about? If they are all Windows or all Mac there shouldn’t be a problem. Mixing them can cause problems. You don’t have to install anything but drivers the software is optional. Your work PC might block the installation depending how it’s setup.

I am using XP. I have tried several times to load it to the external drive, however, it continues to load it on my C:/Program Files drive on my laptop. :o(
