Slow Transfer rate

Hello,

I have WD’s My Passport 0730 external hard drive (1 TB). When I am transferring files(aprrox 42 GB) from my win 7 laptop,the data rate I get is only 1Mbps. This data rate would take hours to complete the process. Kindly tell me how can I increase this data rate. 

P.S- I am a total beginner in this domain. So please enlighten me about the technical words used.

Hello,

Try using another USB cable and if possible also another USB port. You can also run a diagnostic using WD DLG.

Make sure the cable is not longer than the original and don’t connect with a hub.

I tried using this software but the external drive (My Passport 0730) is not available for diagostic test. Only the C drive is shown. What should I do?
